"Hospital La Paz Institute for Health Research" (IdiPAZ) was created as a place for biomedical research, as a result of the relaionship that has been forged over the years between La Paz University Hospital (HULP), the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), Getafe University Hospital (HUG), the European University (EU) and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of La Paz University Hospital (FIBHULP).
Since its formal constitution on December 15, 2009, IdiPAZ is an institution accredited by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), renewing this accreditation in May 2015. In February 2020 the accreditation was renewed for five years.
The Scientific Structure of IdiPAZ includes research groups distributed according to three categories (emerging groups, consolidated groups and excellent groups), you can also belong to IdiPAZ as clinical associate. They focus their activities in seven strategic areas:

IdiPAZ works to establish itself as a leader in translational biomedical research, national and international, to promote quality on the basic research, clinical research, epidemiological research, and health services research. In addition, our Institute aims to promote and develop programs and research projects or research training, with special attention to the training of professionals in scientific research methodology and the needs of the primary care setting.
Safeguarding the quality, ethics and ethical principles of research are cornerstones of the work IdiPAZ performs every day, in addition to promoting the efficient use of resources and infrastructures.
The ultimate goal of the Institute is to promote the translation of the results of the work of its researchers:
• to society, transferring the knowledge generated from its activities in clinical practice
• to the scientific world, by disseminating its activities across generated publications and scientific reports by the institute
• to the economy by promoting innovation and the transfer of results
As an accredited Health Research Institute, IdiPAZ is involved in the “Spanish strategy for participation in scientific infrastructures and international organisations” promoted by the Spanish government in their document “Building 21st Century Science”. This strategy is based on the ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) roadmap promoted by the European Union toact as an incubator and catalyst for initiatives of scientific facilities.
With in this European strategy, IdiPAZ participates in:
• ECRIN – The European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network for Clinical Trials and Biotherapy.
• EATRIS – The European Advanced Translational Research Infrastructure in Medicine.
